Sperm cells are gametes sex cells that are produced in the testicular organ gonad of male human beings and animals. Like the female gamete Oocytesperm cells carry a total of 23 chromosomes that are a result of a process known as meiosis. In both animals and human beings, among many other organisms, these cells are involved in the sexual mode of reproduction which involves the interaction of male and female gametes.
The male and female reproductive gametes sperm and egg have specialised structures which reflect their functions. Video of an Unfertilised Human Egg. Adapted from a video published by the Frisco Institute for Reproductive Medicine.
The spermatozoa of different groups of animals exhibit great variety of form. Those of chordates, however, show a remarkable uniformity of structure. The tail consists of four components—neck, mid-piece, principal piece and end piece Phillips,

There are many different types of cells in animals. Each type is specialised to do a particular role. These ensure that the organism functions as a whole.
The penis grows enlarged and firm, the skin of the scrotum is pulled tighter, and the testes are pulled up against the body. As sexual arousal and stimulation continues, the glans of the erect penis will swell wider. As the testes continue to rise, a feeling of warmth may develop around them and the perineum.

Sperm are smaller than most cells in the body; in fact, the volume of a sperm cell is 85, times less than that of the female gamete. Approximately to million sperm are produced each day; whereas, women typically ovulate only one oocyte per month. Sperm have a distinctive head, mid-piece, and tail region Figure. The flagellum extends from the neck and the mid-piece through the tail of the sperm enabling it to move the entire sperm cell.
Spermatozoon is a mature male gamete or reproductive cell. A sperm cell comprises of a round or cylindrical nucleated cell. The structure of sperm is very important for its motility and function in sexual reproduction.
Sperm is the male reproductive cell. In the types of sexual reproduction known as anisogamy and its subtype oogamythere is a marked difference in the size of the gametes with the smaller one being termed the "male" or sperm cell. A uniflagellar sperm cell that is motile is referred to as a spermatozoonwhereas a non-motile sperm cell is referred to as a spermatium. Sperm cells cannot divide and have a limited life span, but after fusion with egg cells during fertilization, a new organism begins developing, starting as a totipotent zygote.
