I was writing a history of dance music, and I wanted to interview Marc Acardipane. It turned out his appearance was a measly half-hour on a tiny, far-away stage at the end of the last night, like booking the Belleville Three to play the burger bar. I kept asking about speaking to him, while my smiling handlers pretended not to hear.
Gabber is a brand of ugly, corrugated, atonal and viciously fast techno, with beat-counts averaging at a breakneck bpm. Centred on scenes in Rotterdam and Milan, in the early to mids gabber became the soundtrack of a generation of pill-guzzling ravers and skinhead scallies in Moschino tracksuits. Guerrini is a Milanese DJ who runs an addictive Tumblr page called Gabber Eleganzathe first stop for vintage gabber detritus such as rave flyers, fluoro vinyl sleeves and clips of slack-jawed Euro-rave merchants.

Breakbeat hardcore often referred to as 'old skool' hardcore - This retrospective term is usually reserved for tracks produced in the early 90's, a large period of growth for the UK Rave scene. These tracks are characterized by piano sections, bouncy basslines, breakbeats, and high-pitched vocals. Breakcore - Uses distorted, fragmented breakbeats and sampling to create a hectic effect.
Based in Belgian New Beat industrial style of Techno, Techno music reached Amsterdam in the late s,  and it was the producers and DJs from Rotterdam in the early s who evolved it, mixing it with industrial into a harder house variant which is today known as "gabber". Though techno tracks from Frankfurt 's Marc Acardipane were quite similar to the Rotterdam style, it was the popularity of this music in the Netherlands which made Rotterdam the cradle of gabber. The essence of the gabber sound is a distorted bass drum sample, overdriven to the point where it becomes clipped into a distorted square wave and makes a recognizably melodic tone.

First and foremost, "Gabber" is a person who listens to "hardcore techno" music. In German, the feminization of the word is most often used in conjunction with other words such as gabber mouse, gabber angel, etc. Gabber-typical recognition features are often a shaved bald head, or a very short haircut with partial shaving of the hair in men. The gabber-typical distinguishing feature of women, are long hair with bald shaving of the sides.
