MTQ Turcot Reconstruction Project

In September 2007, the provincial government, through the Quebec Minister of Transport (MTQ), presented it's construction plan for the Turcot interchange; one of the largest highway interconnects in Quebec. (used by over 280 000 vehicles per day)

The project proposes a side-by-side rebuild, without interrupting circulation at this location. Once the new structure is opened to circulation, the ministry will proceed with the demolition of the original structure.

The MTQ is hoping to obtain the final green light for their project by the 31st of December 2008, and begin work in the Côte-Saint-Paul area during the summer of 2009. In this area, the construction would last approximately a year and a half. The demolition phase of the original structure is planned for 2014.

The key change in this proposed project is to build the new structure on the ground, as opposed to the current elevated structure. These ground structures will be constructed on large embankments (earth and rock hills of lower significant height) which would bring maintenance cost savings for future generations.
